Wikis, Wikis, and more Wikis

I have been neglecting my blog lately because I have been a busy little bee on wikis. Have created a math wiki which aligns with our math curriculum — Kindergarten through Grade 4, Scott Foresman/Addison Wesley. The wiki has main links to each grade and then within the grade, you can get an overview for each chapter along with vocabulary words and definitions. Still working on the resources for each area — great online activities for students to use to reinforce their math skills and to differentiate their learning. Also working on posting the Massachusetts State Math Standards for each chapter. Our school’s math committee had the vocabulary words and standards available in digital format which was a tremendous help. Love that copy and paste.
I also created a wiki with links to resources I need to access frequently. Feel so much more organized with this wiki available at school, at home, on any computer.
Lastly, I have been working very hard putting together a Wiki Workshop for the staff at my school. It is finally going to be offered today. Will run today for 2 hours after school and then we will have 2 more meetings in May. I have 18 teachers signed up which is really great. I am a bit nervous but I am hopeful it will go well. Everyone is very excited about wikis, including me.

Wiki Wikis everywhere….
I think of all the Web 2.0 tools I have worked with the wiki is by far the one that has caught the teachers’ attention most. If they start using this, they become more comfortable on the web and using tools, looking for resources. They also have created a place to hang their stuff. From here they can branch out and explore additional tools and hopefully foster more collaborative work.
I think they like the wikis because it is an easy way for them to make a presence on the web and create a communication vehicles for their students and parents. Plus, cannot forget the organization factor. Great stuff!!!
I went in and looked at your math wiki – what a great idea! I work with ELLs and this will be a great place to go to see where the kids are, what is expected of them at any given time in the year, and what language the texts and teachers use! Thank you for this!

Thanks Peggy. I hope it is beneficial to a lot of teachers and students. Still have work to do on it but it is on the way. I have had this idea for a couple of years and finally, with wikis, I was able to put it out there. Thanks for the feedback.
